NYC Half Marathon Short Report
Evan S. picked my ass up at 4:30am headed to city. Logistically things were
quite smooth and easy surprisingly.
Weather was PERFECT mid 40's light to no wind cloudy.
First 6 miles inside Central Park I was unfamiliar with but knew there were some good hills. I played it a bit
conservative knowing the second half would be flat to downhill going
down 7th ave. and WSHwy.
I figured my PR last year (sept.) in Philly was not
going to happen because of the hills today but I was hoping for
somewhere close as I do feel I am in better shape. I ended up negative
splitting the second half kicking ass last two miles of
6:58 and 6:45.
he last mile for me was memorable which had me going
through the tunnel to the finish line. Last 800m though part was uphill
and I was pushing through it. I gave it my all and passed quite a few
runners the last mile and crossed the finish line at 1:32:39 missed a PR
by 18 seconds! This was a successful race to help judge where I am at
for upcoming Marathon at end of April. (splits 7:26, 7:15, 6:52, 7:15,
7:18, 7:02, 6:59, 7:06, 6:58, 7:02, 7:01, 6:58, 6:45, :40)
Overall I was quite happy with the whole race from logistics to course to water stations, etc. From not really looking forward to this race, it is a race that I'd consider doing again. It did help that I was in good company with Evan.
PS: There was a chance me and Evan would be close but he pulled away while in still in central park. I was not far behind him but never did see him to catch up. He ran great!

Thanks so much! I was happy with the time all considering...I think I am ready for Illinois. A few more weeks before taper!

Great job, Kenny!
You'll experience quite a difference running in Central Illinois versus running in Manhattan.
Though, there is a Manhattan, Illinois. You might like that, too!

Great race Kenny - looks like you held strong throughout - must of been fun to muscle out the last couple at those paces!

Great race, looks like you will be ready for Illinois. The hills in Central Park should prepare you for the one and only noticeable hill on the Illinois course which is in mile #25.
