RNR Philly Half Marathon Report
Previous PR: 1:36:53 (Sept 2010) May 2011 HM 1:38 (sucked wind)
Goal: Originally 1:34 but based on training 1:33.
Left my house at 5:00am with my dad which was great. I was very anxious and a bit nervous for this race with not having my bib yet and parking etc. But I settled down once I Got to Philly around 6:20 and found parking in heartbeat and walked over to registration to pick up bib. Logistically this was one of the easiest BIG races to get to and park etc. Over 20,000 participants. (I now know no reason to sleep over)
Weather: said 56-58 degrees partly cloudy winds 10-11 NNE Winds.
Strategy: Run the first few miles around 7:05-7:10, Maintain 7:10 until mile 8. Run those around 7:20 assuming headwind, then from mile 9-13 kick it up to try and go sub 7:00's.
Overall:
Official Time: 1:32:27
I Could not ask for a better day for aHM race this time of year. I executed this race perfectly and pretty
much as planned. Although I did feel I left 3:21 on the roads not kicking it in a bit sooner or faster the last few miles. I think I was a bit too relaxed out there at times.
There some good tailwind at times mixed in with some headwind during miles 8-9. I kept on saying "not now" meaning now is not the time to kick it up a notch. I did this starting around mile 6 as I was feeling very good. I stayed in a groove until mile 9 where I did my best to rip it up from there which I did some decent splits then.
I was starting to feel a bit spent the last 2 miles as the sun came out and the finish was up hill a bit. It was not the strongest of finishes lacking a strong kick at the end but it was a consistently run race w/steady HR. (Nice part is I don't feel beat up as I have a big week of 80 miles starting tomorrow). Then taper time.
Side note: My HM
time equates to 3:15 for marathon which is a BQ for me. Not sure I can
pull that off but it is tempting to try.
Also I PR'd in the 10k, 10m, and 15k this race.
Final Note:- I saw Chris at the finish line who ran well I will let him tell you but it was fast. He looked great and it was awesome seeing him there. Really made the moment! Thanks Chris!! We gave a BIG 365Hug (LOL) and I introduced him to my dad. He is such a gentleman. (He even said I looked very relaxed around mile 1).
Thanks everyone on this forum you guys and gals really help to motivate me and give a bit more purpose to each training run which pays off!

Wow, Kenny, what a race, great pacing and great PR, congrats. I think the slower first mile probably helped a little but I agree, you might have been able to go a little faster but hindsight is easy. Nice job!

AWESOME job Kenny. I saw this one coming and I'm so glad for you. You went out there and kicked some ass. I don't think that you should hesitate for a second on that 3:15. You left some time out there today but really you were just saving yourself for the big one. Go get em and once again.... Congratulations!

I like the way you think. I told my dad after I did not want to rip my legs up too much on this one because of marathon.
Thanks! 3:15 does sound nice.
Re: RNR Philly Half Marathon Report
Like Tim said, we saw this coming, and I think you should be treating that 3:15 BQ time as a realistic goal. Your training has been killer, and I don't think you've come anywhere close to your potential. Awesome job today! I'm really happy for you.

Seth - Thanks I am thinking of 3:15 will talk to you later in the week.
Re: RNR Philly Half Marathon Report
Way to go, man. Kenny was rocking the 365 singlet just as in his avatar picture and so I found him easily in the crowd during mile 1 and he was looking very smooth and relaxed so I knew I wouldn't have to wait long at the finish. He finished looking strong too and I got to meet his Dad post-race. Great job out there, Kenny - you ran like someone who will be hunting a BQ sooner rather than later!

Great PR, Baldo.
But I'm wondering, did CM give you the last rose, or what?
Well done!
