1. What is your favorite beginning of a race that you've done?

A few years ago, I got invited to do a marathon in Seoul, South Korea. Since I was an invited runner, they did a big announcement for all of the runners and we got to walk through the big tunnel of runners that were lined up in the general seeding corral to the front of the pack. I didn't understand a word they were saying (they could have been insulting me for all I know), but it was still a pretty cool ego stroke.

Before Boston 2009, Ryan Hall was the last elite to enter the starting corral. He started yelling and getting the crowd pumped up. A few seconds later there was a flyby that I swear almost broke the sound barrier. I've never been so amped up before a marathon. I think I could have run about 4:15 on that first downhill mile.

I have a feeling this will be a two-man battle between Tim and Schuey, with Lisa and Chas battling on the female side. In other words, those two couples may account for 50% of the posts.

I think the Flying Pig and the National marathon - the part that made it my favorite is that instead of standing there on my own waiting for the race to start, Vivian was with me and we chatted as we waited for the start. Other than that, I think I've always stood on my own waiting for the start.

With regards to the actual start, OC Marathon. Because I had no real jitters, felt completely relaxed. With regards to the course... Not sure. Nothing has stood out. The net downhill in the first 3 miles of OC was nice, though.
