Congrats on the sleep! I bet it was nice.  I'd love a good 3 hr stretch right now.

I hear you on the heat/humidity. The same here and highs in the 90s the next 10 days.

Makes me think of a line from Deliverance, but I will spare you that.

Sounds like a recipe for a drowning - be careful!

I will be...I don't drink, so I got that going for me.  The Wisconsin River is very dangerous and since I grew up living near it all for most of my life, I know what and what not to do.

Thanks!!!

12 miles...A nice easy step back LSD run.   I ran it with a friend of mine.  We took it easy and had a conversation the whole time.  Completed 12.11 miles at an 8:06 pace.  Average heart rate at 139...

Anyone else think that Nick kind of looks like soccer star Robin Van Persie?  Google Van Persie and see if you think so.  And while I'm at it, I always tell Dave-O I think he looks like Justin Verlander.  Anyone seeing these similarities to Nick and Dave-O or am I nuts?

Well, you're definitely nuts, but I do see a bit of a resemblance in both, Nick moreso than Dave.

08.25.13 -

Off/cross training...I survived the bachelor party/canoeing/camping trip.  We canoed 14 miles on Saturday, then camped on a sandbar.  Then we canoed another 6 in the morning.  Very tiring, but fun.  Sleeping on sand is NOT comfortable!  Back to the grind this week, as my mileage climbs to the mid 50s and on its way up to the mid 70s in a few weeks.

I am so happy that it is supposed to be in the mid 90s this week...NOT!!!

Cross-training...Hit up the gym for some weight training.  Tomorrow is supposed to be in the mid to upper 90s with a heat index of over 100.  Should be perfect for my 7 miles...

Do some good hydrating prior and after if you're getting those temps.  Looking good in the training.

7 miles...Perfect weather for my run this evening.  94 degrees with a heat index of 99.  Who could ask for anything more?  It was definitely a hot one out there, but I made sure that I was adequately hydrated and I did slow my pace a little.  I ended up sweating out 7.26 miles at a 7:42 pace.  10 more hot ones tomorrow...

Nice work, Nick.  At least it was only in the low 80s here in CLE but the humidity was right up there.  10 miles over hills - and as my daughter would say, "That makes us Cray, cray."

Brutal!  I'm in Springfield MO and it was just as bad, but I had a tempo on the schedule so I had to take it inside.  Way to get it done!

It actually wasn't too bad.  A lot of sweating, but my body handled it well.  We'll see how tonight's 10 miler goes.

10 miles...A little better weather this evening.  Only 85 degrees with a heat index of 90, although the humidity was a little higher than yesterday.  All of that was an equation for more sweating.  The run itself went really well.  I completed 10.20 miles at a 7:41 pace.  A very similar pace to last night's run.  In the last two nights of running, I have lost a total of 4 pounds.  The higher weekday mileage and warm temps are starting to kick in Smile

7 miles...An alright run tonight.  When I got to the gym tonight for my weight training, my legs still felt a little tight and fatigued (and rightly so).  So I decided with the off day tomorrow and the still warm temps that I would cut back to an easy 5 miles tonight.  The humidity was lower this afternoon than yesterday, but the temperature was still 87 degrees, putting the heat index at 89.  I sweated out 5.21 miles at a really easy 7:48 pace.  The easy run tonight and the off day tomorrow, should give me the rest I need for my 30 mile weekend.  It looks like the heat is supposed to break nearly next week, so I am looking forward to that Smile

I know you still have months to go, but I can feel the excitement building! bounce bounce bounce

With all the running you've done in awful conditions this summer, I bet you're going to be able to knock this race out of the ballpark if you get cool and dry weather on race day.
