Cross-training...First day of taper, found me in the gym for some weight training. My body is feeling good after putting it through the ringer the last two weeks. now it's just time to get it to the start line refreshed.

6 miles...First actual run of taper is an easy 6 miles. Nothing special about the run. I just want to keep up the intensity as my miles start to decrease. I completed 6.20 miles at a 7:34 pace...Less than three weeks out.

4 miles...Up early this morning to get in my run. I decided to do my 4 mile loop backwards today. It is the first time that I had ever run this loop backwards, but I figured with taper I should switch things up. The only change in the run with the direction is that the uphills were longer than going the other direction. I still completed the 4.27 miles at a pace of 7:29 per mile.

Off day...Unscheduled off day, as work got in the way. This week is our sales meetings and Thursday's meeting found me starting early and ending really late. So, my plan is to switch out the Friday off day and Thursday run. Sometimes you gotta be flexible.

Your race is on November 2nd or 3rd? You're looking at sub 3:00 as the goal right?

8 miles...A cold and windy afternoon as I headed out for my run. In fact, I ended up putting on my running tights for the first time since winter. The run itself went very well and I felt fast. The times definitely show that, as I ran 8.23 miles at a 7:06 pace. Looks like I am keeping the intensity up as the miles decrease. I have 6 miles tomorrow with 4 at MP.

With the training runs you've been doing no wonder it looks like you're shooting for sub 3:00. That said I think you're smart to run a conservative sub 3:05 and get that BQ you've been working for.Nick Morris wrote:November 3rd....Sub 3:05mul21 wrote:Your race is on November 2nd or 3rd? I don't even want to think about sub 3:00...Just a BQ, that is all I am asking fornkrichards wrote:With the training runs you've been doing no wonder it looks like you're shooting for sub 3:00. 6 miles...6.25 miles in total today. A 1 mile warm up, 4 miles at MP (6:58), and a 1.25 mile cool down. Cold and windy today, but it didn't stop me from wearing shorts and a tech shirt. After the mile warm up I commenced to hitting the MP for the next 4 miles. The splits for the 4 miles are as follows: 6:40, 7:02, 6:50, 6:40. The 7:02 miles has a very long steep hill, so I gave back some time there. After the second mile, though I settled in and put it in cruise control. The remaining two miles felt really good, as I was relaxed. I ended up running the 4 miles a little faster than MP at an average of 6:47 per mile. the 1.25 mile cool down was a good way to end the workout. 12 miles tomorrow morning.
